When it comes to keeping animals as pets, we as a nation are right up there with the best of them. Recent figures suggest that around 13 million households have them, that is heading towards half of the population.
Apparently, although it is often said that a dog is a mans best friend, it would appear that more people have a preference for keeping fish. In indoor tanks, and outside ponds, they are by a long way the most popular choice.
Like many people, I love pets, we have several at home, and we try to give them the best quality of life that we possibly can. Again like most people, we know our limits and would never consider getting any animal that could cause us harm in any way shape or form.
This is what made the story that I read about the guy who kept venomous snakes all the more incredibly difficult for me to comprehend. It wasn’t just the fact that he had these incredibly dangerous reptiles, it was also that he apparently lived in a flat in an inner city tower block.
